Help please, fellow POG'ers!  I'm down the very last details to finish up my '73 Six-Day in time for the anniversary event.

One thing I am stuck on is installation of the toolbag bracket.  It is the correct original, and I am using the correct, low/short seat assy.

It would appear that the front part of the bracket is to mount at the seat bolts.  However, even with the seat slid as far forward as possible (right up against the rear mount for the tank strap), the bracket will not clear the back of the seat.

I can see that further back on the bracket, a pair of hose clamps could be used to strap it to the frame, but there seems to be no where else for the front part to bolt other than at the seat bolts.

Any suggestions, or pictures, would be greatly appreciated.  PM me, if necessary.  Thanks.

Hi Ted,
I do NOT have a Six Day bike, but have a 73 Piner.  My bag mount does NOT use the seat hole location, but attaches on the same frame gusset a few inches to the rear on the left side, and the pipe mount gusset on the right side.  I sent you mail off the POG site, need your address to forward you a few photos.  Good Luck !!   Nelson McCullough

There are (2) different steel racks, one has longer arms than the other.  I am in Utah right now and won't be home until the 10th.  When I get home, I will look and see if I have the one you need.

After studying pics of what you guys sent me, it appears I've got only one option - I have to drill some holes.  The "triangulated" area behind the seat bolt on the LS, and the pipe mount on the RS are exactly where the forward holes in the bracket line up, but there aint no holes in the frame there.  No biggie.  I think it was originally mounted with just the hose clamps.

Great thanks to Nelson McCullough and Don Roth for info and photos, which helped me to properly fit this key piece to my bike.

My final conclusion doesn't make a whole lot of sense, though.  It appears that the front mounting holes for the rack are to match up to a pair of holes in the rear of the triangulated braces which make up the upper shock mounts.  Oddly, my bike had no holes for the rack in those triangular braces.

I checked it over and over, and finally concluded that I had to drill holes in the braces, which I did.  Mounted up perfectly, then.  Can't help but wonder why the holes were not there, though.
