Bob,

I was thinkin' about your loss of power and knowing that you are runnin' a 28mm Mikuni, have you checked the float needle valve size?  We had a problem with a group NOS 28mm Mikuni's that came with a 1.5 valve.  This is too small for flat out MX or long WFO running.  It will run fine for short burst or trail riding and some CC racing when you are on-off the throttle.  Something to consider.

Good luck at VMD.  Break-in time?  Don't let Fast by Friedel turn into el Fried Fast :(.

Thanks for your thoughts, Mr. Phillips...

W/R to float valve, all I can tell you is that she ran like a bandit last season and first two (muddy) MX rounds this season.

W/R to your earlier post - it's entirely possible that she ingested something (or someone) earlier this season, but no hard evidence was present.  I use grease on sealing area of the filter (after oiling) but I have had a problem keeping the "outer" box clean, so much so that I've taken to taping the lower perimeter of the cover. The foam seal (there) is not in excellent condition be any means.

I'll talk with Tony at VMD about the history of motor BC (before Close).  I really do think I've put a pretty serious "season" on the motor since May of 2008, but it encourages me to know that - if I keep it clean - she will run a long time.

Happy Trails!

Bob,

Perhaps when your old airboot got to close to your pipe last season you may ingested some bad dirt.  As opposed to clean dirt, if there is any of that around a motorcycle.
