If any of you who are heading to Florida have a chance to visit the Daytona 200 Monument I would urge you to do so. Dick Klamfoth is the man behind the creation of the Monument and John Penton has been a supporter of the project for a number of years.  The Monument is located behind the Daytona Beach Hilton which is just north of the famous Daytona Beach pier, the website is http://www.daytona200monument.com/index.html

There was already a good bit of Penton history located at the Monument and recently the Penton Owners Group was presented with an opportunity to have its own wall section at the Monument. The wall section is engraved on the top with Penton Owners Group and an image of a Steel Tank Penton, it is absolutely awesome.  There is room for 72 POG members to have their names placed on the wall section, the order form for doing so along with the price and other information will be included in the next POG newsletter along with some photos of the wall section.

I get goose bumps each time I visit the Monument, it is very special and we are very lucky to have this chance to not only support the Monument but to be a part of it also.

There was a very nice turnout yesterday for the 2nd Annual "Back to The Beach" get together at the Daytona 200 Monument.  Many very notable riders and motorcycling personalities were in attendance and a good time was had by all.  John Penton, Tommy McDermott, Dave Aldana, Larry Maiers, Bud Green, Don Emde and Dick Klamfoth are just a few of the notables who were in attendance.

I spent a good bit of time talking with Bud Green and was amazed to learn that he rode the beach race twice. If you make Daytona next year you might want to catch this very interesting get together and learn about the history of the Daytona beach races from those who actually were a a part of it.

The POG wall section attracted a great deal of attention.  If you want to be a part of it, and help support this very special Monument, be sure to fill out the order form that was included with the latest POG newsletter.

Sorry we missed all of you.  We were so busy running around we forgot all about the gathering.

I did get to visit the monument on Friday and was very happy to finally see what Mr. Penton has held so close to his heart for such a long time. A very nice tribute.

I even managed to find the 'Man from Mars'.

The following is an update on the POG wall section located at the Daytona 200 Monument on Daytona Beach, as can be seen in the above pictures.  To refresh everyone on this, we are able to have 72 names engraved on the Penton Owners Group wall section @ $ 175.00 each with all moneys going directly to the Monument Fund.

Dick Klamfoth said today that all of the names that have already been paid for will be on the wall section for bike week and the annual Monument Day. Dick also stated that any names arranged for by February 6 will also be on for bike week.

Our Penton Day at the AMA meeting is February 6, I will have the forms with me for anyone who wants to sign up at that time. I will stop at Dick's place on the way home and hand deliver to him the forms as he needs to give the engraver those names immediately, so that the plaques are ready for him to pick up on his way to Daytona.

Anyone wanting a form mailed to them please email me and I will get a form out to you right away. [email protected]

If you get to Daytona do yourself a favor and stop by and visit the Monument.  What Dick Klamfoth dreamed about and then brought to reality is truly an awe inspiring tribute to the motorcyclists who raced on the beach.  We are extremely fortunate to be able to be a part of it. As the historians in the Group already know, there is also a lot of very important Penton history in Daytona.

Thanks
Paul
