Guys,  I was planning on riding my 1972 Six Day 125 at this weekends events at Barber's Vintage Festival, but I can't get it to run. It has been about 5 years since running it but when parked all it needed was a fresh clutch. Of which I replaced. I had previously drained the gas so there was no gas in carb or tank.  I put in fresh gas and it would start and run for a few seconds acting like it was loaded up then die. I checked for major loading up and found nothing. I replaced the plug (which was wet)and it started again but died. I checked for spark and it has a blue spark.  I tried push starting [xx(] and it wouldn't even hit. [:p] I pulled air filter and that had no effect. Any suggestions ??????????
Frustrated,
Dwight  :(

Dwight,
If it has a Bing with the enricher lever, you might want to check the rubber seal on the bottom of the enricher plunger to be sure it's still intact. One other thought is to check and make sure something hasn't made a nest inside the exhaust pipe. I'll keep thinking and add more later if something else comes to mind.

Dwight,

I think if it is not the enriching o-ring it is one of the jets stopped up.  I bet if you clean the carb or replace the jets it will start.  Even without gas in it those brass jets can have residue or oxidation.

Have fun in the rain at Barber.

Dwight,

It was fun riding on the same line with you last week although I didn't see too much of you (way too fast in the woods). My Six Day had a similar problem and it turned out to be too much carbon build up in the exhaust pipe. Loosen the exhaust pipe head from the cyclinder to let the air flow and try to start it. If it starts, that's your problem. I used an acethylene torch to clean out the carbon (I first tried Map gas torch but that wasn't hot enough). I think most of the build up is in the stinger and not the head but I would clean out the entire pipe. I've heard other people say build a fire and put the pipe on top until it glows red.

Good Luck

Chuck
