My first post ! I am glad to be a part of the group ! I have a 1974 Penton 250cc Hare Scrambler, 1993 Yamaha RT 180, 1983 Honda XL 185, and a Honda 1973 CL 100. Some of you I met at VMD at Mid Ohio this year... I raced, belive it or not the CL 100 in the hare scramble at VMD. After seeing all those beautiful Penton bikes, I had to have one !

Welcome Charles....you'll find these guys (and gals) to be the greatest and most informed Penton people I've ever seen. Never hesitate to ask a question....someone will come up with an answer.

Beautiful bike Charles!

I hear that if you get two Pentons together in the garage, they multiply like rabbits. So be careful!

Thanks guys !     Hey I noticed that the Marchozzi shocks on Britt's (very nice) 125 are the same as mine ... the valving is at the top on his, and mine are down by the swing arm... which is the correct install?

This subject comes up once in a while....I have a 77 Brochure that shows the valve down on the Cross Country version and the valve up on the Motocross version....so...?

They didn't start turning shocks USD till about 1977 so to be correct on yours you should run the shafts up and valve body down.  Infact I don't know why AHRMA allows shocks to be run USD on vintage bikes as it is historically incorrect and nobody did it.

Dwight,

We ran Bilsteins upside down in 75 on Bultacos and in 75-76 ran Zokes upside down on my Mint 400 Penton.

I've seen pictures of them installed both ways on the MC5. I think they came that way originally but they chaffe away at the number plate so I think some people flipped them over. You should just put them on which ever way makes you happy, it's your bike!

The way I always felt about this subject even back in the day was,I really don't believe a rider ever won a race because his or her shocks were one way OR the other.
