today i was told about a bike in trailer,i was told it might be a penton .it is.i did not want it but you know how that go's  frame number 55005756 motor 752096  it has a white frame not painted this is factory paint .it is a 175,1977 a blue smallish tank held on by the leather strap, foot pegs and rear brake levers can be moved to lower position.i am not sure if a penton or west coast ktm thanks for the help

The frame should have originally been silver and if the tank and side panels are both blue, that would be a West Coast Penton/KTM 1977 MC5 175 with the dual position footpegs. A very desirable bike. Can you get any pics, price, and condition, and if it's been started any time recently? Mike

this 175 has the head and cyl ,off of it  he was going to do a top end job,but he did not do it, there is no rust in the bottom end turn over freely, my friend and i looked closely,and  the frame is white, blue tank, and blue side panels, black leg forks.piggy back marz.shocks and the moveable pegs, i saw somewhere that some west coast penton-ktm had white frames.like i said i did not want the bike, but for 125.00 i had to get it

Frames were all silver until 1978, as shipped by KTM in Austria, then orange. None were white, it was probably repainted by previous owner or dealer. The black leg forks with silver hex shaped bottom end caps are Ceriani forks, also very desireable. You stole it!

2 days ago all i had were greeves and huskys now a  1980 250 ktm and this 1977 how do i tell the model a  enduro mx gs 6   or something else thanks

550 frame ID # is MC5 and only very late 76 and 77 had dual position footpegs. 1977 GS-6 bikes also had an integral (non removeable) rear frame loop. The engine # 7-52xxxxx verifies that it is a 1977 175 engine. Originally the fuel tank should have been held in place by an oval shaped rubber at the very rear portion of the tank that sticks out rearward to the frame, not a leather strap like you mentioned. There should also be a backward u-shaped bracket welded on the frame at the front of the tank with rubber bumpers or a curved rubber insulator. MC5's started out as MX bikes, but dealers could add lights and accessories to make an Enduro, since the Motoplats usually came with lighting coils even on the MX models.

I don't think there were any Mettco Pentons beyond the Sachs motor.  Sounds like an MC5 175.  They came with no frame loop.

I had a white framed METTCO Penton 125...1973.  Not an expert, but haven't seen any white frames much newer than that out here, yet.

Larry wish I would have that completed that 1980 KTM 125 deal a few years back, remember, me being "victor", kinda goofed that one up.

Still looking for one someday.

We're doing Glen Helen this weekend and it should be perfect.  70 and sunny and my first ride in almost a year.   Easy Does It !

Mine is an early 1977 250 MC-5 and when I got it, it looked like it still had the factory silver frame paint.  Foot pegs are not adjustable on mine.

hello well today i brought the 1977 175 home, it took some time to dig it out of the trailer full of 4 wheelers and junk. i have been looking it over the right side panel is gone,they were orange stock,it has a mikiuni carb!the front forks are husqvarna long travel with husky rim and brakes the cyl. is'nt seem to be bad no piston,pipe is not all dented up.rear shocks are marz. the seat foam is good the cover is blue with ktm on both side  ,it looks stock did ktmuse blue seats ?i'll be takeing it to my sons shop im ky saterday and i post some pics

Around 1982 or so KTM had a very dark blue seat similar in shape to the one on your 1980. Mike
