I have one mounted on my MC 5 and it works well.  petcocks were a bit of a problem. they make a petcock that works well and look pretty good too.

Thom,

What brand of petcock did you use and where can you purchase them?

Thanks for any information.

The clarke petcock works very nice and its not expensive at all, I was able to find an adapter plate that allow me to use a stock penton petcock.. It took a bunch of searching.. Clarke makes several of them..  Britt works there, and I seem to remember he was able to figure out which one it was for me..  In some ways I think the clarke petcock could be better, it uses a full 1/4 inch barb so the size of fuel line is bigger than what came stock. I think this might be important especially on a 400. So far using just one stock petcock has not given me any trouble.. But then I do not ride it much these days.

I'm glad this topic came up. I bought a Clark tank for my 1975 high breather Mint 400.
Before anyone says anything I found out the hard way that this was the wrong tank. Reason being is in my research I found a the guy on Ebay that listed the years as 1975 - whatever. Anyway after I found it didn't fit I just modified the frame to make it fit, because this is going to be a flat tracker so I have been cutting up and rewelding the frame big time. Now it fits like it was made for it.
But that leads to the petcock, the 75 petcocks are wrong and I know I need a 76 petcock, but I wasn't sure about the Clarke petcock, seemed kind of inexpensive. But now that I read this I can order one!!
I keep the progress of my Penton 400 flat tracker on Facebook because I have so many people asking about it and then they can comment on the progress as well.
If you would like to see that progress it is in the link below. If you don't belong to Facebook it may not let you look. I pretty much signed up to see some other projects and now famous (at least in the motorcycle community) have become friends and have been helpful.
I am not plugging Facebook but that is where my stuff is.

Also for those having big time problems finding a tank for their high breathers, the modifications weren't all that tough and even though I chopped out the tunnel for feeding the air into the airbox it could have been maintained and functioning. Welding and fabricating skills required.
