Greetings,

We have made a few changes in the POG meeting schedule for this coming winter as explained below.

The November, December and January meetings will continue to be held on the first Thursday of the month at the KTM building located in Amherst, Ohio.

We will once again be setting up a display at the Progressive International Motorcycle Show that will be held once again at the IX Center, Cleveland, Ohio on January 27 - 29, 2012.

There will be no February POG meeting as it would fall very close to the IX Center Show dates, more on the IX Center display plans will be forthcoming shortly.

The March meeting will take place on the first Thursday of March, March 1st, at the KTM building Amherst, Ohio. Bike week at Daytona takes place from March 9th. to the 18th. so this meeting date should not conflict with Daytona travels.

The April meeting is tentatively scheduled for Saturday April 7th., it will be held at the National Packard Museum in Warren, Ohio.

The NPM is an outstanding facility and I would encourage you to check out their website, they have a motorcycle display running from January 13, 2012- May 20, 2012 and this years display will be a perfect fit for our meeting, more info on the display will follow shortly. There is a great area at the NPM for us to hold our meeting.

The Mission statement of the Nation Packard Museum is below, their reason for being is very similar to ours and hopefully we can learn from what they have done as well as having an enjoyable meeting and visit to their world class facility.

Warren, Ohio: Birthplace of Packard

The National Packard Museum's Mission is to preserve the Packard Legacy, to recognize Packard's influence on transportation and industrial history and to educate current and future generations. We carry out our mission through the operation of a world-class museum that collects, preserves, and exhibits a collection of automobiles, artifacts, and documents and hosts educational programs and special events that further our Vision "to ensure the Packard Legacy endures."

A special thanks to National Packard Museum board member and well known motorcycle enthusiast Bruce Williams for his assistance in making this meeting happen.

Warren, Ohio is about 80 miles east of Amherst, Ohio, the Museum is easily accessible from major interstate highways. More details of this meeting will follow shortly.

Thanks,
Paul

Mike,

The POG display at the Progressive International Motorcycle Show happened quite by chance, and has grown into an unbelievable opportunity for the POG to present the Penton story to thousands and thousands of attendees. The date of this show is always the weekend prior to the winter meeting held by the POG at the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum.

Given the work load to have POG events of this size on back to back weekends, combined with the comments on traveling to the POG meeting at the Museum in inclement weather, the decision to put our efforts into the Progressive International Motorcycle Show and not have the Museum meeting this year was made.

When we do our set up at the Museum we pretty much choke off access to the displays for other visitors, in February when they are slow we can get away with doing this, but not during other times of the year when they have more visitors. For this year we do not have plans on holding a meeting at the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum. The Museum is designed to be a Museum, not a meeting place. We have fit our meeting into numerous areas over the years and they have all been a bit "snug" :), fortunately the Museum staff has worked tirelessly with us to make it work, and we deeply appreciate everything they have done for us.

For those who have not seen the pictures from the POG displays at the Progressive International Motorcycle Show, please follow the links below.

The National Packard Museum is an outstanding facility that will provide us with an an opportunity to see what another group with a mission that is similar to ours has done. The motorcycle exhibit is always done exceptionally well and this years theme will be a perfect fit for our Group.

Is there not an area in the AMA complex, like the room we had lunch in last Feb, that we could use for meeting as opposed to tying up museum space??

Paul Danik

Dan,

There is a meeting room in the Museum, more like a board room with a large table in the middle.   We used it in the early days of having our meetings at Pickerington, but we quickly out grew it.  Here is a link to the photos from the 2nd. annual event that shows the room.

There is a similar room in the AMA building, but it offers no real advantage. Plus in the warmer, busier months, they have meetings of their own to host.

The area we used for eating this past year was offered up to us just a couple of weeks before the event while we were doing a planning visit to the Museum, or we would have been eating downstairs of the Museum as we have always done. We were very lucky that it was available for the day of our visit, but it is not a location that we can always use, especially in the warmer times when they have their own functions to host in the AMA building.

The new venue has a lot to offer, not only in the facility itself, but also in the educational value of seeing what another group of enthusiasts have done to preserve the object of their passion. Also, the motorcycle exhibit that will be on display is always very well done, and a portion of it will have a theme that is directly related to the Penton heritage.

Thank you for the interest and the question, I hope it is answered to your satisfaction.

Take care,
Paul
