1983-1985 frame colour

I know its getting past the era but can somebody tell me the colour of the frame for this era bike? Cheers Bill

Big Mac Posted - 02/11/2011 : - try any of the Chevy engine oranges. I used Duplicolor brand. Easy to find and almost exact for the '79 frame.

Gary Roach Posted - 04/27/2010 : "Back in Day", my dealer used to stock cans of Case Tractor "Flambeau Red" for repainting KTM frames, and it's very close to the original color. The PPG number is 71282.

I am reluctantly switching to the flatter looking Duplicolor Chevy engine orange, which has been proven to be more durable, but not as close of a color match.

Here is what I finally settled on for the 1978 up orange frame paint, it is the Duplicolor DE 1620 Engine Enamel. Just make sure you use a good metal etching primer like the Duplicolor DAP 1690. I have used duplicolor clear coat DE 1636, but there must be no trace of humidity and closely follow the directions regarding time between coats or the paint will craze or leave a crinkle finish in spots. I will be trying a more durable SprayMax Urethane 2K clear coat in the future to see if the durability can be improved upon. http://www.repaintsupply.com/pd_2_part_2k_aerosol.cfm

Thanks guys for the replies. I just got a little thrown by some photos I have seen that seem to be a little closer to a red than an orange. I then had another look at my other 85 frame and decided that it is basically the chevy engine orange that we have been using for our 78-81 models. Looks as though i will just keep using that colour.
