I'm looking at a 125cc Penton currently and still need to know if in 1971 they (125cc "A") came with points or electronic ignition. The owner said that there is no spark and probably needs new points. However, I'd hate to purchase it and find it needs a Motoplat!

1971 came with points and Bosch ignition from my memory but alot were switched over to Motoplat.  I have good used Motoplats complete for $150 including coil and flywheel but not shipping.  If I can help e-mail me at [email protected]

To identify the type of ignition without taking the side cover off, which has only 4 screws, look at the coil from under the gas tank.  The Bosch coil is sort of rounded and black, the motoplat has a red coil.  I would HIGHLY recommend pulling the ignition sidecover off of any  Sachs powered machine before you buy it.  I have found the end of the crank snapped off and also found the engine case trashed by a chain going through it.  If a seller does not allow you to inspect that part of the engine I would be quite leary.  Also, I would NOT run a Sachs powered machine without an engine case protector.  Just have that chain go through that case and you prize posession will need a lot of $$$$$ repairs.  Just trying to help.  Paul
