I just received an e-mail from one of my customers with the following subject next to his name:
Spain Trip (Fair help needed!!!)
On opening the e-mail there was a plead for financial help. This person was in Spain and could not leave because his wallet was stolen and he had no means to pay his hotel bill.

I figured that this was some sort of scam, so I called my customer on the phone. Sure enough, he was not in Spain. This morning he received an official looking e-mail from Yahoo that his e-mail password needs to be changes. He made the mistake of clicking on the link sent to him. The "official" looking Yahoo page appeared and he typed in his password information. Without realizing it he had just given his e-mail account to a thief who now has all of his account information and his address list.  He notified Yahoo and they are in the process of closing his e-mail account down. However, the thief has his address list.

So, a word to the wise, do not answer any e-mails requesting you to give any sensitive information. If you receive an e-mail requesting money for an emergency - call that person up on the phone - do not respond to the e-mail. [^]

Al,
Same thing happened to my friend yesterday. The "help" letter looked very real. Being suspicions, I called him and his e-mail account had gone blank, hacked by someone just 10 minutes before.
