The smart way to do it even if you are not going to race is sign up to race, which allows you to get into, and camp, in the off road pits. When you get to Barber, all you do is stop at the "racer" ticket booth and get your wrist band. Much less crowded than the non-racer camping and the swap meet is on that side of the facility. I know people that did the same thing at Mid-Ohio, they signed up for one race, never intending to race, so they could camp in the off road pits.

The MX pits/campground offer the best view in the facility too!

We aren't going this year, but we always camped by the gaurd rail at the front of the off road pits for a couple of years. Last year they had moved the marker, signifying the entrance of the off road pits back quite a bit, and we were told that where we camped at is now reserved camping and were asked to move after we had setup everything. Thankfully one in our group had talked to them and we didn't have to move.
