Best Frame Shipping Method?

What have you found is the best, and cheapest, way to ship a bare frame?  Thanks in advance,

If the customer, or you if on the receiving end, doesn't mind going down to your closest Greyhoung terminal to pick up the package, and it doesn't travel through the Chicago IL. terminal, (Lol. don't ask), Greyhound is by far the cheapest method. Mike

I used cable ties to attach the swingarm to the rear frame loop andthen used shrink wrap to cover the entire frame and have sent frames to several east coast locations from the west and haven't had any problems using Fed Ex or UPS. Even a heavy CZ frame was only around $60 to send.

i agree that the least expensive way is by greyhound. i've done it a few times myslef both sending and receiving. fed-ex or ups is outrageously expensive due to the oversize and odd shape.  chi jer

Consider leaving the triple-clamps in the steering head.  You can ziptie them to one side so they won't move.  The assumes you have an extra pair you don't care about.  The reason I say this is because I shipped a Husky frame a few months back and the top area for the bearing race got dented in during transit.  All it takes is for the frame to fall off of a pile of stuff and it will land steering head first, kind of like toast always landing butter side down.  Cheers.

I wrap the neck in cardboard then shink wrap the whole thing.

I actually had a scrap of carpet wrapped around the whole steering head then the entire thing was wrapped with cardboard with strapping tape around it.  Seemed like it would be ok but, I guess not.

I wrap mine with cardboard around the steering head, footpeg mounts, and protruding rear frame rails, then wrap with a couple of rolls of Saran Wrap. I would think that wrapping the steeing head with ample bubble wrap would provide sufficient cushion in the event of a fall. Mike

You would think.  I have shipped frames before with much less protection and they did fine.  Go figure.
