Looks like I have to reproduce the pipe heat guard  that I'am in need of. Does anyone else need one while I'am at it ?  The more I have made less per unit price.

This is a 1969 pipe , is the bend on the 68 pipe the same ?

I would be interested in several depending on price.

You could probably count me in for one after you know a price.

I'd be interested in one too if it's the two bolt style ala '68.

Ugh Oh...,  three bolt style. The bend angle on the '68 is not as sharp either. It's probably a safe bet that if the angle were softened to match the '68 that the bolt holes would be thrown off etc.
Actually, I just picked up a few lengths of 3/16 rod and figure on using my pitted/broken guard for a template and making up a fresh one.
I'm getting pretty used to the '68 parts curse by now.[B)]

That's what I thought  having hard time finding rod stock, 3/16 is to big and its more like 164 to 167.  I found some old stock to do three to four units if I have to order more its $40 a stick just to do 1.5 units not counting labor . I've  spent many hours on the phone and drive time just to find some who wanted to do them . So far Iam in the hole for $300;):) I will have   the 68 made without the bend and won't have the mount tabs welded on and no chrome.

Fred Deagostino

Yup, the 3/16 is too big, but pretty darn close. I just assumed the originals were a 'metric' guage and didn't even try and find it.
It would be nice to have the right stuff, and somewhere in Europe it's probably sitting in bundles.
By the way, I was having second thoughts on the bends being different so I'm sitting here like an idiot with my pipe in front of the screen to compare it with yours:D. 'Bend is slighter on the'68.
Just a thought, but on the '68's you could have the front bracket attached and the poor devil owning the '68 could do his bends and position his own rear bracket (?). 'Just a thought.....  Fred

Fred,

I was going to build a heat shield for one of my pipes, and I found a 5/32 X 36" welding rod at my local welding shop. 5/32 is 0.156", and it should be a little closer in diameter to what your looking for.

Sheesh, .156 with chrome added has got to be right in there with mine which are .160 w/chrome remnants. 'Much better than 3/16'ths (.1875).
Still, since I already have multiple irons in the fire on this build, and gooddirt's pouring in effort and bucks to do it I'm going to hang back and see how he makes out. Your info. might be of good usable value to him by the way. Good post.   Fred
