Thanx for that Dennis!

Sometime I think that in our zeal to celebrate the riders of those times we fail to celebrate some of our other heroes of the sport.

Hundreds of dealers, promoters, club members & lay out crews that did so many thankless tasks to make this sport possible for us.

I love to hear stories of the dealers from that era.

Dennis,

I sure remember Chuck from Penton dealer school, reading about his accomplishments and from hearing others tell of visiting his shop and being treated like family. I have an 1974 1/2 250 that came origonally from their shop, the brothers who sold me the bike often tell of Chuck's wife baking items for them to snack on while visiting the shop..and how much they enjoyed dealing with Chuck. Thanks for mentioning Chuck...

Southrider,

Your comments about all the thankless tasks that were done by others sure rings true. I remember very well back in the late 70's when I was away from riding after getting married, building a home and starting a family, my AMA membership renewal came and I gave some though to not renewing as I didn't need it at the time and money was tight. The more I thought about it the more I realized how selfish that would be...

I sent in my renewal if for no other reason as a way of giving back in some way to all of those clubs, promotors, checkers, layout folks, ect, ect that were there for me when I needed them, and I have always been glad that I did.
