Hi all,

how can I differenciate a Wiseco piston for Sachs 5speed-engine with cast iron cylinder from a Wiseco piston for Sachs 6speed-engine with aluminium iron cylinder?
Thanx a lot.

Hi Guenther,

The early Wiseco pistons for the cast iron cylinders were a "cast" piston with "PS 100" (#162) or "PS 125" (#163)casting marks in the bottom of the piston. These pistons come with 2 thin rings or can also have an "L" ring and square ring.

The pistons for the alloy cylinders are forged aluminum pistons (#168) with a "W" mark on the area where the wrist pin inserts into the piston or in the bottom of the piston. These pistons come with an "L" ring and square ring.

You should be able to use the Forged Wiseco pistons in the cast iron cylinder.

HI Alan,

thank you very much for the excellent info. [8D]
How much clearance will a #168 piston need?
The standard clearance recomended by Sachs for Mahle/Kolbenschmidt-pistons was always 0,07 mm.

Hi Gunther, in the box of the 163P and 168P Wiseco pistons, there is a document with installation instructions.
Suggested Clearances:
2-Cycle Cylinders under 60mm bore:
Normal use: 0.002" (0.0508mm)
Racing use: 0.003" (0.0762mm)

If you want, I'll send a copy of the document to you.
I use the Wiseco pistons very long in my Sachs 125 engines and had never problems. The old 163P pistons with two "THIN" rings can better avoid.
I opt Wiseco pistons above many other aftermarked brands (GOL, HGM, GPM, [xx(]...)
Mahle, Elko and KS are very good but hard to find.
Best regards, Koen

Koen,

You mean there are other forged Wiseco pistons which have wider rings?  From whom do you find these?  I obtained a Wiseco recently with what I think are "thin rings"  Yes, I agree, I don't like the thin rings and they rattle like early 70's Japanese small bore bikes.

Hi, above the three generations SACHS 125 Wiseco pistons.
Left: cast with thin rings 163P
Middle: cast with normal rings 163P
Right: forged with normal rings 168P

With the last two I have very good experience.

Best regards, Koen

this would be perfect. :D
