One of my wintertime projects is to refinish a watermelon tank for my 74.5 250. The tank I've got appears to be a painted tank from the factory judging by the knee wear on its side which has worn through to bare smooth fiberglass resin. It looks to have been originally red painted over the fiberglass (looks like paint and not gel coat) followed next by a grey primer with a red top coat possibly indicating a repaint at some point in time. The paint is spider webbed in places but the tank is solid with no detectable soft areas in the fiberglass. I've searched the forum for tank painting procedures but unless I've overlooked something I've not found a complete procedure posted for repainting starting with stripping through priming and top coating listing what paint and primer to use. Tanks in advance if anybody could offer up a procedure.
Also were tanks originally gel coated or painted randomly or was there a year model or serial number break from gel coat to paint?
One final question - white on black or black on white tank stickers?
