My 74 400 has a Bing 54 . I've read here it came with a 38mm carb. What do the other numbers 2/   /101 mean? It has 1 on top of the slide, a 185 main jet, a 35 idle (pilot) jet, and a needle jet that must of been altered with a hand engraved 2.83 . Not sure what needle ( has 3 grooves). The engine is complete, don't know if it's had work done. Are these specs close to original? I appreciate any info. All my previous 2 stroke experience is with chainsaws and outdoor power equipment. This 400 is a whole new animal to me.  Chris

Chris, the "2" means a carb with air slide, so if you have only 1 cable, someone changed the cap and the throttle and air slides. The #101 is just a counting number, can be that the 101 is a carb for a KTM, 102 for Hercules and the 103 for KTM again, no system in the third group, if I'm right. Best chance to find the original jetting/setting informations is an owners manual or spare part list of your KTM 400.
More information you can find in the Bing data sheet:

Hope this helps.

Leo, some great info, just what I needed. Thank you much. The choke has been removed. I read about the slide notch and atomizer upgrade earlier, both of which this carb has had done. Engine has reeds also, I have alot to learn I  guess. Thanks again,   Chris
