I was going thru some old trailrider mags today and came across the penton 40th anniversary issue. Very interesting read. I especially liked the story of rare pentons. I didn't know of a couple of the rare ones. A 50cc for kids and the Puch powered steel tanker. Interesting stuff!

Hey Dale;
   What issue was that in? I had a subscription for a while, and may have read that, but even want to check it out if I still have the issue.
   Thanks a lot,

That issue is from Feb. 2009, Volume 39 Number 2.  If you check out the cover photo the rider on the Steel Tanker is POG member, and all around good guy, Bob McCullough at the ISDTRR in 2004.

Paul Clipper was heading up Trail Rider at the time and he supplied me with a few extra copies of that issue, still have an extra one here if you need it Dan.

The links below will take you to the POG photo gallery photo albums from that epic event. It is worth the time to look at all the photos as this was a "once in a lifetime" event, and the stars sure were in alignment, although Mars was most likely a little off its proper orbit....:)  Get goose bumps just thinking back to that event.

If any of you guys see pictures and have any questions about them please ask. I think it was Dane who stated that when we wheeled all the display bikes into the building at KTM that it was probably the most Pentons ever together at one time except for when they were at the factory. or in crates at the warehouse, "back in the day".

Thanks for the links Paul, Lots of great stuff.

Paul, in the pictures of your ISDT bike there is a shock mounted on the left side without a spring. Is that a spare? Did you ever need to use it?

Thanks for the info Paul. I didn't save each issue but if it had something neat in vintage bikes or coverage of the ISDTRR I saved those. I had the issue in question and forgot how jammed packed with Penton stuff that issue was!. I pulled it out and flipped through it a bit, and will re-read it soon. I almost got to go to the 40th Anniversary  affair but life things got in the way and wasn't able to attend.
   Thanks again,

Dale,

   The shock was a spare and fortunately I did not need to use it. I don't know who looked at the ISDT rules and determined we could get away with that extra shock, it was marked during impounding just as the other two were.

  For that event our machines were shipped over to the states and we preped them here, the mounting tab was installed at Penton R&D, not at KTM.
