Marzocchi Springs

I have two sets of Marzocchi shocks with different color springs:  black and purple.  Which are the stiffer springs, and what weight rider would be used on which?  Both sets are going on MC5 250 bikes.

Purple is stiffer. Purple came on 400s and black on 250s.

My 76 250 came with the purple springs.....

Maybe it was purple on MC5s and black on GS? I know purple is stiffer than black.
