Hi guys. Looking for your advice and infinite wisdom. I have a friend of a friend who has a couple old bikes to sell. He has gone back and forth on them though. I want the Penton of course :)  He is the original owner of the a 74.5 Mint 400. He also has a 72 ? PUCH 175 with a locked up motor. Any thoughts are appreciated. Both bikes have been sitting under tarps on a covered porch.

I know the value is relative to desire, but input is appreciated :) I am on the low end of a budget...

Depends on the condition, I have paid as little as $500 for the Penton and as much as 1K.  The Puch pretty much the same as I currently have a 76 MX.  I will have it (Puch) restored to perfect and it will be worth at least 4K finished as well as the Penton would be.  Always figure, if you buy a vintage bike that needs work, in most cases you will drop another 2.5K into it to get it really nice.  Really depends on the deal you can make with the gentleman!

1974.5 mint value you ask ?  you asked value ;range from $1000 to $2000 unrestored in good shape . showroom at $3000 to $4500.

Value is in the eye of the buyer and seller. Post some pictures and you can get a better idea. I just saw a 400 with a complete 250 in boxes go for 1000. I may be interested in the Puch depending on location. And price too.

Thanks for the input guys. I knew there would be some humor in this great group :)  I can usually do ok buying, but this one is tricky because it is a friend of a good friend. I don't want to tick anyone off, but the fellow seems to carry a strong sentimental value to the Mint. He won't give me a price. I have offered but "no" so far. It has 536 original miles on it (even tagged it properly), and he says he has the title. Compression is good, but it has sat for 30 years. Everything is there except the right side pipe cover. After having to sell off my good Penton collection when the economy went south, I am trying to start another. I will be glad to send a couple of pics to someone if they know how to post; I never got around to understanding that one! haha

I will also re-post another question about my HP14 trailer. I am needing tires, as the tires that came on it are rubbing. I'm not sure if the rims are oem, but I don't think so...

Thanks again!

UPDATE:  I don't think I will be able to do anything with this. I can send pics to someone for posting if they would be so kind. I would love to get these, but he came back at $2500 for the pair. I just can't pull that off. I will of course be glad to help/store, etc. to any POG member. The bikes are temporarily at my former dealership employee (and friend!)'s house in Martinsville, VA. I will be glad to provide all info as I know it to be.

Rob, Will he separate them? If so, what would he take for the puch? If you can get a pic of the puch and email it to me at [email protected] I would appreciate it.

UPDATE:  I was able to work out a deal on these bikes. The Mint looks to be a 75. They are now with me. I am keeping the Penton (of course!) and would like to sell the Puch so I at least can partially pay for the Penton. My truck tire money went into the kitty~~~.  I will be looking for a Mint right side pipe cover as soon as I can afford it. For now, I am happy looking at it. I am going on the Shenandoah 500 D-S ride again, so I had better get my 02 ready for that. Big Fun!

Dale had earlier expressed a possible interest in the Puch. I have more pics available if anyone would like to post them. I will take the time to pick up that knack soon, I hope! I am curious as to whether you guys think it would go better whole or as a part out. I am also wondering if they shared anything in common with the older Pentons. That headlight looks like it would fit an early model steeltanker, maybe?

Thanks as always. Happy to have a Penton back in the stable :)

Rob, I forgot all about this bike. Send me some pics if you can. [email protected]  Where are you located?
