From Sachs 1001/5A ...1251/6D they are the same as Koen said.
clutch ass'y pt. # 0684 001 200.
For the GS and MC types there are the same part numbers for the clutch case, inner and outer plates, so all parts should be the same too.

The clutches are NOT the same. [:0]
The 5As have a clutch cage that is 39.5mm high with 8.5mm long springs.
Beginning with the the 6As the clutch cage is 41.6mm high with 9.4mm long springs.

Both of these clutch assemblies are interchangeable. The higher cage and longer springs were an improvement to allow more separation of the clutch plates when using the clutch.

The Penton parts lists #003 and #006 show these differences.

Thanks for the info Al. We will talk more about the clutch parts next year once the coffers are full again following Christmas. The parts I ordered arrived so thank you for the prompt delivery. As an aside I went to Tarawa in the S Pcific last week for work. Unfortunately I couldn't find time to check out the old WW2 relics around the the area of Betio and pay my respects.

Cheers Bill

Even saw an 11 spring clutch on the experimental 175 Sachs engine that Dane gave me.  Al is correct, a few differences on the Sachs clutches.

I found a Sachs parts list for the 1001/5A and 1251/5A from Sept. 1970.
The cages are indeed different,
up to motor # 6318 754 the cage was 39,5 mm (part #0658 002 000)and the spring has 8,5 mm dia/ 7,5 windings (part #0239 015 000), from motor #6318 755 the cage it is 41,5 mm (part # 0658 002 100), 9,4 mm dia spring/6 windings (part # 0639 106 000).

So Alan was right - sorry for the confusion :)
