swing arm bolt

The allen style swing arm bolt on the early 74 250HS. Is the allen a 12MM? Can someone confirm the proper size needed?

Yes, that is correct. I bought a couple of 3/8" impact 12mm Allen bits to use a breaker bar on to slowly work stubborn ones back and forth after soaking with penetrating oils to aid removal. Most standard ones break otherwise. Mike

If I might add, when re-installing the swing-arm bolt I have always used an anti seize product on the threads to prevent future issues.

Thanks gentleman, of course it's size I don't have. No matter how many boxes of tools you have....

Anti seize on the area that contacts the sleeve is helpful too, because it is usually that part that rusts solid not allowing the bolt to come out easily. If that happens the bolt will turn and start to unscrew but it will spread the frame as it does it. When that happens it requires a lot of heat and repeated application of penetrating oil. Access to a hydraulic press is very helpful if you have one big enough, but often requires cutting the bolt between the swing arm and inside of the frame with a Sawzall, and removing the swingarm then pressing the bolt out of the swing arm. When that happens, I use a small Jack placed between the frame rails close to the swing arm making it easier to cut the bolt between the frame and the swing arm without damaging either one with the blade. Decided to install new swing arm bearings. Is the double roller HK 20 30 imperative as a replacement?
Or can you use a 20 30 style in a single needle roller style bearing?

Ski, Installed TLA 20 30 Z BEARINGS.
I believe with the 14 or so races I do each year, they will hold up fine. If not, I'll hunt down the double roller style next time. Time will tell, Mike thought that a Penton parts supplier sent him the single roller style last time he ordered.

Hi guys, I too am rebuilding my swingarm. Great info on the bearings.
What have people used to get the old ones out? I have given mine a crack with a drift but they have been in for a while and there is not a lot of surface area. Also the manual mentions filling the pivot with oil, does this work well or is grease the way to go?

I have tried chisels, and punches, but the quickest method I have found is careful application of a Dremel tool or die grinder and cutting a Groove in one side of the shell once the rollers are pried out, and once almost cut through, rolling the shell inward with a punch or chisel which lets it collapse and fall out.
