I bought a Penton last weekend that I believed to be a 1975 Penton 250 (that's what the title says), but after some research it might be a 1974.5 and may not even be a 250? It has frame and motor numbers that start with 54, then the next three are 406, but the left engine case looks totally different than any 74 or 75's that I have seen in the photos on the internet, looks more early 175-ish.

And it has mounts on each side of the rear fender, not a center mount. It has deep dish Akront rims with black mag hubs and all of the '75 looking stuff, like the skinny red mx tank held on by two cords.

Not so sure if the seat I have is considered the "long, tall" seat or not. Sure doesn't look tall to me.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Clay

54-406 is a 250 built (June of 74), or 74 1/2. Pics would help on the seat, but it doesn't sound like a Long Tall seat. Mike

Thanks for the reply, Mike. I was doing some research and it looks to me like they went back to the 1973 motor sometime in 1974 after a run of 1000 or so, for some reason. If so, that would explain my left side engine case, which resembles the one I had on my '73 Jackpiner. My seat measures about 21 inches in length and 6" high from the front to the rear, where it is a bit higher, maybe 6 3/4". The motor says 54 30 0030XX.
