Afternoon all, I was lucky enough to locate a complete ignition set up for my 1975 175 CrossCountry/Jackpiner for nothing. It looks to be in usable working order and has the correct part numbers on the flywheel. Unfortunately after doing some more research, I found mine does not have a "Diode symbol" molded into the outer coating, as other post in the forum have stated and shown. I'm assuming this Diode will act as a rectifier to change the AC voltage from the stator to DC voltage for the lights. Any guidance is very welcome.

I believe that the diode symbol on the stator is on the early stators only. Early stators have the trigger circuit diode in the stator instead of in the coil as on the later versions. All motoplat stators produce AC output for lighting. A external rectifier is required to produce DC for battery charging if required.

Motoplats with 5 wires are required to run Lights. MotoPlats with only two wires do not provide for lights. Mike

Morning Everyone, My stator has the correct 5 wires coming from it. The wiring diagram I'm working with( Penton Manual from Al B.) shows no rectifier. it shows the wire's running directly to the european style connection block,to the switch, then to the lights. So now I'm confused. Thanks again for all the help. I'm no genius, but I'm pretty sure the lights operate on DC current.

Start it up and put a volt meter on it, just be sure the meter is set for AC,,,   :)
