Seems the "Power That Be" in AHRMA have leveled the playing field a bit in the National Cross Country arena.  Several rides I was looking forward to are gone and now much traveling will be required to compete.

Daytona is on the docket the first weekend of January.  Sounds like a fun venue but with only one day of XC racing.  Florida in January sounds good but THAT area of Florida I could do without. Doing the math now to see what events will give me the best bang for my buck but right now racing my modern bike is looking like the most economical direction.

What part of the country do you live?

wfopete

Arkansas.

I ride for fun first and points a distant second. I used to have four 2-day events that were GOOD venues all within 3.5 hours of drive time.  I also would try to hit another event or two that required a lengthy road trip.  I was hoping to ride the White Lighting or Unadilla events in this year but neither are on the XC schedule.  Henryetta is now just a single day PVCC event.  Half the events in Arkansas have been cut (and I know that was a AHRMA move).  We have several new events with unproven track records as to the quality of the venue and ride. Like I said before I ride for fun first and I really hate it when I drive a long distance only to be greeted with a poor XC course.  Indicators of a poor course/venue? Lack of trail miles, race held on a modern bike track or has ATV trails, poor layout or over used trails.  It's tuff to read the tea leaves on a new location but if the venue has good reviews by a proven club/organization or seasoned riders that is a big plus.  I guess I had it too good in the past.

You can always ride your vintage bike in a modern event.  Nothing like passing a new bike with a combined age of rider and bike over 110!

Pete, do you how the (3) days in KS works?  Is it 3 days of racing, or the days split by class?

No details that I know of.  Typically a MotoFest only has a max of 2 days of XC racing but it would be cool to see three days. Just have to wait and see.

My sense is you are correct.
2 VXC races. 2 PVXC races.
Spread over the 3 days.
Keep an eye on the schedule to confirm...
BTW...I agree the loss of White Lightning is huge.
A wonderful XC event.
