A while ago, eveyone was talking about
recreating 400 cc pipes either for the
77 MC5 and the 74 400. I lost track after
these discussions. Was there ever a solution
to having these made? I need one badly.

Thanks

Tim,

Call Dean at Pro Form Racing (909) 947-1121. They have a 400 in house and was going to build a pipe for me. I have decided against it after I sent them the specs on the aftermarket pipe that I have and they said it was great.

Teddy,

Which year bike do you have the aftermarket pipe for?

Glenn, the engine and pipe I bought off of ebay for around $150 I think. The pipe was a rusted mess and the engine was a corroded mess. The engine turned out to be a '77. I spent a billon dollars rebuilding the engine from scratch and I sandblasted and painted the pipe with Eastwood exhaust black. They both look and run beautiful now. So to answer your question, I don't really know what year the pipe was designed for, I got it bundled with a '77 engine. It has a separate silencer that is held onto the short stinger with a clamp. The silencer is in essence the stinger and is around 11" long. Hope this helps. Teddy

Thanks, Teddy.  The reason I asked is I bought a '76 or '77 400 pipe on e-Bay for my '74, after hearing that the later pipes worked better than the early pipes.  I don't know if it will fit or not.  I was planning to change the mounts to fit.  But if there are good aftermarket pipes for a '74 framed 400, maybe somebody with the right bike could use the pipe.  The pipe has an integrated silencer and appears to be original.  I saw it and used the "buy it now" to acquire, and it's in storage now awaiting its turn in the "project roulette."

Was the aftermarket pipe for a '74?

Glenn, If you decide to get rid of that
76/77 pipe let me know.

Thanks
Tim

Glenn, no it's for the '77. Teddy

Tim, as I get into the better weather, I'll pull the pipe out and see if I need it or not.  I'll let you know in the spring.
