hi guys, whats the difference between a 77 250 enduro and a 77 250 mx. is the motor, frame, forks and shocks the same.  thanks  keith

Hi Kd,
I have a 76' mx,
The frame, motor etc. should be the same. however, there is a differance in the transmissions. The enduros came with a six speed. 2-6 are the same as the mx. the enduros has an additional first gear. The Mx's actually use 2nd gear as their first. I understand that if you have a MX you can make use of that enduro 1st gears with a few changes. I had thought of adding that 1st gear myself but decided not to.
What is the context of your question?

Actually in 77 the enduro [gs-6] had a completly different frame than the mc-5. It was a redesign of the old frame breather frame.

HI Mike, thanks I did not know that,  I was under the impression that it was the same basic frame.
Happy trails

I was always under the impression that the "MC5" was in fact a 5 speed with 1st blocked out as referred to in the previous post. HOWEVER, my '77 MC5 has 6 speeds, AND my brochure for the 77 MC5 and GS6 specs them both as having 5 speeds. I suspect that the blocked out 1st gear may have been a European only thing. Although my memory tells me that the '77 tested by Dirt Bike was a 5 speeed. That issue just sold on E-bay, but $19 plus shipping was a little high for me.
Anybody else counted the speeds on their MC5 lately?
Mike

Sorry, that should read: "the brochure specs them both as SIX SPEEDS ".

Hi mike,
I ment to write this a couple of weeks ago but I forgot. I bought my bike brand new, in fact there was no dealers when I bought mine I had to order it. So I bought it sight unseen. the only bikes that I had seen was at a Pro race at Sears Point just before I ordered it, I too was under the impression that it was a 6 speeder and after I took it out I was disappointed to find out that it was just a 5. It is not until i joined this group that I discovered where the problem was, As it turns out and you have discovered this too some did come as a 5 and some came as a 6, both with the same transmission one pinned first gear and the other not. I thought of making the change but decided to leave it alone. I am not going to do that much tight trail riding and so would not be of that much value to me. Give me the wide open trails.
