OK, I've visited the old site, and read the guide on identifying your Penton, and am still confused.

The bike in question is supposed to be a 1977 MC5 250.  The number on the steering head is as follows  550 06903.  If the first digit is the year and the second two are the month, it was apparently built in 75 during the 50th month.  Much confusion.

The cylinder is stamped 54 30006.  I know the 54 indicates a 250.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'll bite.  How do you determine the year of an MC5?

GOOD QUESTION! I HAVE NOT SEEN A 76-77 WITH ANY INFO IN THE FRAME NUMBER ON THE YEAR. 78'S DO BUT NOT 76-77'S?? 77's HAVE A SWINGARM MOUNT BRACE ON THE RIGHT SIDE MOST 76'S DONT HAVE. ALSO THE FIRST ENGINE NUMBER IS THE YEAR. 5-5..... MEANS THE ENGINE IS A 75
