Hello everyone, I stumbled across this bike a good while ago. When i found the bike it was in boxes, milk crates etc in the attic of an old garage. The poor thing had been rode hardand put away not just wet but, soaking wet on many occasions. I bought it knowing what it was and the resto process began. The frame is not 100% spot on to the right color but i found the correct color now and will prob have it painted this winter. I still have the correct gas tank but it was left with fuel in it for a few years with extreme heat and then cold temps. End result was it ruined the gray gas tank and made it a maroon color. So for the time being i found a 98 clear factory ktm tank to pull the duty. The ohlins rear shock is currently off of the bike and is being rebuilt and the spring being powdercoated the correct yellow. So i put a rear shock off of a 2000 model ktm 200 exc to serve purpose for now. The engine has been rebulit from top to bottom to include new gears etc. I honestly don't think there is a spot on this bike that hasn't been touched and replaced. I know it's a newer bike but, what it represented when it was originally concieved was a continuation of a legacy that i am glad to be a part of. And to save the bike from where it was headed makes me proud.  Also, the look on John Pentons face at mid ohio this past july was reward enough for me. I asked him to autograph the radiator shroud. He then told me how precious of a bike it was. I did most of the work at my buddys bike shop. It's currently in my garage now with my other bikes, so please excuse the mess you might see in the pics. Currently reaarranging the garage so i can start restoring more bikes myself. I have plenty more pictures than this, if anyone would like to see them i will gladly add them. I posted links so it would't take up alot of space on here.

Hi Michael;
    When I first read your post, I thought you were restoring a "standard" Jeckpiner, and I got confused as I read more. It wasn't until I checked out your photos that I finally caught on! I can't imagine someone taking what really is a rare bike and letting it get into the condition you describe! They only made what, 130 of these? And it's only a 1997! I got lucky and snagged one here in my area. I answered a Craig's List add for a "Dirt Bike" that had no photo. I was barely even familiar with the bike at that time. I asked the seller to send me a photo, and when I saw that blue plastic my eyes about popped out! That was on a Tuesday night. I work second shift,and couldn't meet up with the seller until the following Saturday. I had to work a day shift that day, and as soon as I got off work, I called my nephew and we drove the hour drive to it's location as fast as I could. I call my JP Edition a rescue operation, as the owner bought it for his spoiled kid, he couldn't handle the power of the bike, and was giving away pieces fo the bike to hios buddies whgen they needed a lever or something. It cost me about 500 bucks in OEM parts to replace was was missing or damaged. I got a tile with mine, but non of the goodies or certificate that supposedly came with the bike at purchase, and I sure would like to try and replace some of that which is missing. Did you get the manuals or anything else that shopuld have been with the bike? Nice find, and great job so far on the restoration. Just sounds silly saying that about a bike like this!
  Type at you later,

Dan,
     I didn't get the manuals. I have a friend who bought one of these new that has the manuals. What i did was copy his and made a binder. It will work until i cn find some. I do however have an original spare parts manual for the bike. There were alot of goodies that did come with them.  I don't have a title but i do have the original mso from ktm stating that it is a 200le. Also, thank you for replying and the positive comments.

Cool find and nice save. I've had #102 LE for past 10 years, my favorite for tight woods. Plenty of grunt for ginormous hills, you just need to shift plenty and get the right revs to work for you.

Hey Big Mac;
    How can you tell what number a particular KTM LE is. I have owned mine for 5 or 6 years now, and never really gave that much thought. Is it something you can determine from the VIN number? Or is it on the certificate? I got a title with mine, but did not get the certificate nor the other extras that were sold with the bike when new.
   Thanks a lot,
