G'day all, how expendable is the right side engine brace on the 72 'Piner?  Much easier to get to the carb without it, so wondering if it's really that critical.

Cheers

Allen;
Good Day to you.    The 175 engine was considered heavy and to take some of the stress off the frame the engine braces were installed.  You will void your warranty if you remove them.   [B)]

Allan,
 We had some folks crack their frames after the braces were removed.
 We left one off till we had the bike was  jetted right, then put it back on.
 They do make it a pain to get at the carb. I ran one brace on my 72 100/125 for years (the Sachs engine bikes didnt come with them). It seemed like a very good idea and made the frame more rigid ( the more triangles the better most times).
 Look at this picture, its from a 74 enduro in Ga. My bike is the one in the front.

Thanks for the replies fellers. I reckon I'll take your advice and hook the stay up.  On my 250, the engine case has been modded and the stud mounting point carved away into a sort of drain point - thus no RH engine stay on that bike and the reason for my question.

Hey John, are those official Penton braces in your pic?  And is that the first prototype 'seat saver' I see on your bike (amongst all the duct tape)? :D

Hey John

I hope you still have that bike.  It must be worth a lot of money now.  It looks to be one of only 3 Pentons made with the pipe, airbox cover, shifter and kickstarter on the right and the throttle on the left.

Wait, after looking closer I think its not a Penton after all.  Its a notneP.:D

Auto5guy,
  I was wondering how long it was going to take someone to come up with some type of question on the reverse negative.  Good Job.  But you really out did yourself yug5otuA.  My Golden shift Key Award to uoy.

And all this time I just thought the photo was taken in Europe, where everything is on the wrong side.
