Thanks Guys for the "Happy Birthday."  I spent my USMC birthday with fellow WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, and Gulf War vets at the VA Medical Center where I work.  What a great job I have, I feel every day as I am always with family!

Thank you for reminding me and thank you to all those who faithfully served this great country. I for one did not serve in the miltary but both my older brother who served two terms in Nam and my dad who is a Pearl harbor survivor. Dad was a chief Petty officer. I had two uncles that was a Jarheads. My Dads brother new was the same after the war. lived the rest of his life in Medical/Pych wards The other lived a long and happy life...He passed away just about two years ago. War is a nightmare with in a nightmare and I honor and support those who sacrificed to make and keep our country great. I for one feel I serve my country everyday by raising my kids to be good citzens and by serving others as they walk the difficult times of their lives. It is my vocation.
By the way my son wishes to serve in the military and I for one will not discourage him. It is an honorable thing he seeks.
Thank all of you who serve or have served us and this country.

My heartfelt thanks to all the men and women who have given their all so we may have our freedoms here at home.

There is a fund called the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. It is set up to help the families of injured marines during their rehabilitation from injuries.  We saw it at work on TV and are getting a pool together to send a donation. Just thought I'd throw it out there since they have done so much for the rest of us.

Just a final note on Veterans Day.  I did make the trip to the Regional Hospital here in Kerrville Texas.  The only thing I wish I would have done is wear something that designated my branch of service.  Take time sometimes out your busy schedule to visit a (or many) veterans at a hospital.  They appreciate your visit and it is a simple thing we can do to Honor the Brave men and women that made this a safe country.  Thanks again John for starting the day off RIGHT.

Why are Americans so united?  They would not resemble one another even if
you painted them all one color!  They speak all the languages of the
 
world
    and form an astonishing mixture of civilizations and religious  beliefs.
Still, the American tragedy turned three hundred million  people into a
 
hand
    put on the heart.

Nobody rushed to accuse the White House, the army, and the secret
 
services
    that they are only a bunch of losers.  Nobody rushed to empty  their bank
accounts.  Nobody rushed out onto the streets nearby to gape  about.  The
Americans volunteered to donate blood and to give a helping hand.

After the first moments of panic, they raised their flag over the smoking
ruins, putting on T-shirts, caps and ties in the colors of the  national
flag.  They placed flags on buildings and cars as if in every  place and
 
on
    every car a government official or the president was passing.

On every occasion, they started singing their traditional song:  "God
 
Bless
    America"!  I watched the live broadcast and rerun after rerun for  hours,
listening to the story of the guy who went down one hundred  floors with a
woman in a wheelchair without knowing who she was, or of  the Californian
hockey player, who gave his life fighting with the  terrorists and
 
prevented
    the plane from hitting a target that could have  killed other hundreds or
thousands of people.

How on earth were they able to respond united as one human being?
Imperceptibly, with every word and musical note, the memory of some
 
turned
    into a modern myth of tragic heroes.  And with every phone call, millions
and millions of dollars were put in a collection aimed at  rewarding not a
man or a family, but a spirit, which no money can buy.

What on earth can unite the Americans in such a way?  Their land?  Their
galloping history?  Their economic power?  Money?  I tried for hours to
find an answer, humming songs and murmuring phrases with the risk of
sounding commonplace.

I thought things over, but I reached only one conclusion...only freedom
 
can
    work such miracles.

Another true story from the RR in Tulsa! On Friday, I ventured to the golf course to renew my passion for the game. At the starters desk were two men who came to play the game. One was me, the other an immigrant from Syria, in our country for 30 years. We decided to play the game we love. Long about the 5th hole we became intimately acquainted. In our discoveries and comments, we became empassioned about life in America. He was impressed that men, from many backgrounds, would come from far away places to enjoy each others company. Perhaps only in America (liberty), we began to talk politics, and very seriously! We talked about the history of the world and events, no other country has done so much in 200 years. What a deep admiration of the visions of our founding fathers and our constitution, this man had. We also talked about faith and religion and what would happen when religions collide. Not an easy task for me. At about the 16th hole and 3pm, he asked if he could pray, well by ? I could not stop him or his faith, after all, I am an American whoes father was bombed at Pearl, and a great believer in our system.
