6th gear flush with the mainshaft on Sachs 6b?

The Penton Sports Motorcycle manual suggests that on Sachs 6b transmissions, 6th gear should be flush with the mainshaft when fitted in the cases.  If not, different size spacing rings should be fitted to eliminate axial play.

This relates to my previous post.  Do you seek out differents size spacing rings (do they exist?), or is the difference taken up by shimming the gears on the clutch side as the Clymer Sachs manual suggests?

There are different spacer rings for the gear stack, there are also shims that you can use to make the gear stack (6th) flush with the main shaft.  Make sure all gears are lined up between the lay shaft and main shaft. Shim under the main shaft to raise the whole assy.  You can shim under the case bearing race on the main shaft to make sure there is no freeplay( axial movement) with the cases tightened down. There are small shims on top of the layshaft that are used to remove axial movement when the cases are together and tightened down.   A reverse problem is these shafts should not be tight and should be easily moved by hand with the cases tightened down and no axial movement.   Have Fun!
