For POGGERS who don't know about this site I encourage you to check out http://www.craigslist.org/  It's a free site where you can find, buy, sell, give-away just about anything.  I believe there is a Craig's List for every state in the country as well as other countries.

Folks who live in states where MX racing is/was particularly big are likely to find some barn-fresh/estate sale jems belonging to people who don't know what they have.  Simply click on "for sale" and in the "keywords" field type in what you are looking for.  If you don't get a 'hit' come back the next day.  The site is always in flux.  This evening I picked up (for FREE) a 1979 KTM 250 - and it runs. It's got enough compression to snap your shin-bone too!!!

While Penton/KTM/Sachs/Hi-Point/etc. stuff may be rare and hit-or-miss, ya gotta bookmark CL and use it in your searchs.

Their FREE section is really neat.

Happy hunting!!!

Peter - I called this guy as soon as I saw your post. He sold them to someone earlier today in the Bay area. This had me going for awhile since the bike was only 10 miles away. Oh well, he said it was definitely a project with lots of rust etc... but was complete for $100.
not to mention the other two bikes.

That's my luck too Mike.  If it was raining soup I'd probably be standing there with a fork.  Keep going back, you never know what you might find.

What type of Penton did you actually end up with? The best place to look for a tank is right here. Ask questions and you will probably get answers. There are some great folks here willing to help.
