530 Chain Link Dimensions?

Does anyone know the dimensions (height and width) of a link in a 530 chain?  I just got in 530 chain that I ordered for my 72 Jack Piner.  It is marked as a 530 on the package but when I try to route the chain over the counter sprocket it binds up against the half moon guard that surrounds the counter sprocket.  I don't have the old chain to compare it to so I am not sure if the chain was packaged wrong or I have some other issue.

Thanks,

KD

The height of 530 chain is 9/16" and the outside width is approximately 11/16". Mike

Kevin,
Theoretically the only difference between a 520 and a 530 is the width. Of course the 520 won't fit on a stock Penton sprocket, but I measured both anyway. Here are the numbers.

Height(widest part of the side plate): .585 for 530, .575 for 520 (probably because different manufacturer)

Width (between plates): .990 for 530, .890 for 520
Width (length of pins): .780 for 530, .680 for 520

KD,
The  guard you have  is made for a smaller sprocket very probably. They did come in several sizes. You can re- radius the inside to clear with no problems as long as you dont cut into the bolts that hold it on.
Thats my guess from your discription.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  Based on the dimensions provided I do have the right size chain, but as John indicated, the radius of the counter sprocket guard is wrong.  So the plan is to rework that some night this week.

Thanks Again,

KD

Well this morning I got ready to rework my counter sproket guard but before I did I figured I would just pass the chain over the counter sproket just in case there were any other clearance issues.  To make a long story short I ran into another problem.  The type of chain I purchased (EK X-Ring) is about 200 thousands wider than a standard 530 chain.  So even if I opened up the chain guard the pins on the chain would end up hitting the flange that holds in the clutch rods. Figured I would pass this along and maybe prevent the same aggravation for someone else.
