Relocating foot pegs

Has anyone had to move the foot pegs back? And if so how and what was the result? I have a 76 250 which I have to turn my left foot out to ride.Moving the shifter up just makes it harder to make a shift.Also what about wider pegs? Thanks guys!!!

Are you using a short shifter or a long one?
 
I bought Al's short shifter thinking the shorter throw would aid in shifting.  My bike then began jumping out of gear.  I can be a little slow so it took a while to figure out I was bumping the shorter lever inadvertently and knocking it out of gear.

I switched back to the longer lever and no more jumping out of gear.

Hi Matthew,I am using a shifter that looks to be about 3.5 in.long.

Good seeing you at Marion. That is too short. I have welded an extention on my short shifters. The long ones are hard to find.

What kind of foot pegs are you using, the stock ones do not work very well. I discovered that a set of aftermarket foot pegs helped my riding but they also helped my shifting... If I can keep my foot well planted then I shift better too, I found myself pivoting my foot rather than lifting my foot to shift, I tried the short shifter and hated it, I found a shifter that came off a latter model bike that was longer than stock and I really liked that, Also I use to wear a pair of boots that were really stiff and that effected my shifting as well. I bought a new set of boots and as the boots worked in my shifting improved as well.

Hi Thom, I have a new pair of pegs from Al with the saw tooth design.I was wondering about the wide pegs.I will find a longer shifter and try it out.Thanks Buddy!!

Tommy, your welcome... I have a set of really wide foot pegs on the Maico and I love them, boy what a difference. it is sort of like standing on a platform. my feet never slip, not even when it gets sloppy, It really build confidence...

I have been welding the aftermarket wider foot peg adders to all mine. They wrap around the original peg making it longer and wider. Wide is beautiful. My arm had 6 stitches and is healing well. My elbow protector slide up my arm and let the rock in.

Teddy, I have been thinking about doing the same thing to my 250, and probably any other riders. (or is that ridors) The same thing was done to the brake peddle on the maico, it sure makes a difference, I have a brake peddle for the 75 400 that has been modified to accept a spring loaded end on it... it looks like it came off a shift lever, I do not like it, but until I find something different It will have to stay..
