Steel Tanker rim interchange

I was wondering if anyone had figured out any specific rims from other makes that will work for a steel tanker. (Like the front from a 70 Yam 125)

I know that the Steel tankers could have come with steel Radaellis, alloy Akronts and maybe even some allow DID's.  So there has to be some variations out there that would have the same spoke pattern and angles.

What I would like to do is to be able to go to the bike salvage yard and pull a front a rear wheel from a couple of bikes and be able to spoke it to the Steel tanker hubs.

Right now I am thinking alloy rims.

Andy:  Front and rear steel rims from 1971-1972 Honda SL350 work.
Honda 175 street bikes rear will also work as will many others.
What you need to look for is 36 spoke of course and hubs
that are about same diameter and width.  You want straight
hubs that are same size on both spoke flanges.  I am sure
there are a lot more that will work.  Plus or minus about 3/4"
on hub will keep spoke angles in the ball park.  Also go for
same width if you want it to look correct. 1.6 front, 1.85 or
2.15 rear.  Most street bikes in early 70" had the straight
type hubs.  Also check the nipple diameter.  Ted

Thanks Ted.

That is just the advice I was looking for.  I will take all the measurements and then go hit the yard and see what I can come up with.  There is also a section of the yard with good alloy rims, but most of them have conical type hubs.

Thanks again.
