Petcock stem repair

Anybody have a good way to replace the petcock stems on a tank? I have a fair Six Day tank with rusty stems. I'd rather not tear into the tank itself. I thought I might be able grind the existing stems flush to the tank and either JB Weld or epoxy or fiberglass in two new stems.

Steve, the only time I did it, I ground them out carefully with a Dremel and reglassed them back in. Epoxy resin.
