Looking for recommendations for a good/great quality O-ring chain.

Also need to know # of links needed for:

1971 6-day (steel tank)

1973 6-day fiberglass

I was going to guess and buy 130 links and cut to fit.  Will this work?

thanks,

Ernie,
EK makes a 428 o-ring chain. Their website is //www.ekchain.com . I'll bet most any bike shop can order one for you. A 126 link chain is long enough for both of your bikes unless you have an unusually large rear sprocket. I'd say order a 130 link though just to be safe. Good luck !!

Dave,

Thanks, just what I needed to know.

In searching the archives, seems that the o-ring ring will be wider and I might have to do some chain guide mods.  I can live with this.

An o-ring chain is the best way to go - right?

Ernie,
To tell you the truth, I've never tried one of the 428 o-ring chains so I'm not sure about the difference in width. I knew they were available but never thought I needed one that bad since my 100 and 125 see limited use. The new o-ring chains are superior to the old non o-ring chains for sure. You'll need to determine how much use your bikes will actually see and then decide which type to install. My opinion is, if you just plan to ride the bike occasionally, go with a good quality non o-ring chain. If you plan to race the bike then maybe spring for the o-ring chain. Others may want to voice their views on this subject as well. Hope this helps. Let us know if you opt for the o-ring chain and how much modification was needed to install it. Good luck.
