Tom,

Based on my information (which may be in error) you have an 83 bike & motor.  The dial stamp just tells you when the case was cast & not when the motor was built.  The 1st 3 of the motor SN tells you when it was built.

KTM used the same cases in their 350/390, 420 & 495 starting in 1981 and through until they went to water cooled motors, 84 or 85.

Tom,

I am sure that you have an '84 built in late '83 based on the 8311 frame serial and the 3- year on the motor serial. The other clue is upside down forks, air cooled motor and drum brakes, because '83's used regular forks with disc brakes and I'm almost sure that they did not make the 420 in '85. I also have one myself and think that one great example of post vintage KTM.

I have seen these go for between 600-800 for a runner that needs TLC, to 1000 to 1200 for a complete kick and go rider and maybe a little more race ready. It's hard to say what a well cared for example with nice orignal unfaded plastic or a decent restoration would go for, the 495's bring more, but still no where near the same price league as some of the big bore post vintage Maico's that I have seen.
