The only thing I know is that the 1980 models gained an inch in suspension travel, but other than the slotted side panels and graphics, I am not sure about any other differences. Mike

I have an original 1980 factory brochure, and that is what I'm going by on the travel. I can get you other specs from the brochure when I get back home later this week. Mike

riv187,
I am forwarding you a copy of the specs page from my 1980 KTM brochure. If you have problems receiving it, let me know. The information lists 1980 125 & 175 front fork travel as 10.6" compared to an early 1979 MC80 brochure that lists 125 & 175 front fork travel as 9.85". The 250 & 420 for 1980 is 11.8" vs the 1979 250 & 400 at 10.8". The rear travel for 1980 125, 175 and 250 is 11.4" compared to 1979 125,175,250, & 400 all at 11.50" for some odd reason. The 1980 420 has 12.2" of rear travel, but the 79 MC80 with GS80 kit brochure is too early to list any specs on the 420, which was released at a later date. Hope this helps, Mike.

I believe the rear suspension was the same in 79 and 80.  They just leanthened the dampening rods about 3/4 inch...and maybe went to the Fluted rods.
