What is the best thing to use to flush out the crank case of a Penton. I was going to use gas, but I didn't know if it would damage seals, etc.

Thanks

Chuck;
Alot depends what is in the crank case.   There are 3 very important
bearings in the crank case two main bearings and the rod bearing.   Any dirt left in them can be dangerous.    Gas won't hurt the seals,
but if you are wanting to get out old gas residue it is better to use lacquer thinner.    Flushing out water use kerosene or diesel fuel.
Have Fun!

Doug,

I have sludge. During a recent race the inspection screw on the clutch cover came out. A few weeks after the race I went to change the oil, took of the clutch case cover and the oil was brown (probably from water) and there was sludge. What do you think will work best? Also, after flushing how do I make sure whatever I use to flush is completly out of the lower end.

Thanks,

Chuck,

With this many questions, I'd dis-assemble, clean and re-assemble. Only way to be really sure.
