I wanted to share with you all that we have reached an agreement with the City of Plymouth California, and The Emerson family to race the origional HANGTOWN Track.

I spent Friday at Plymouth Ca, in the old sand pit track walking the 1974 track with Carol Emerson, who is the family representitive/owner of the property. They have agreed to support this event and work side by side to make it happen.

This event will be either the last week of April 2008 or the first week of May.  The event will be a two day event, which will present three venues.

Saturday will be a Trials, and a Post Vintage Race.  Sunday will be a Vintage race. We intend to re-create the 1974 track, which we have historical data, and photographs to use to complete the task.

Don Miller " Plank Owner, Dirt Diggers MC " who is my uncle, was with me, and will co-manage this event

The track is overgrown and will take considerable work, but it will be a labor of love.  I've put together a team out of the Sacramento/Placerville/Reno area to work with on this project.

We are also doing a vintage WASHOUGAL two day race which is scheduled for June 28 29 2008.  We had 500 entries at that event last year.  That event is NON AHRMA.

For this season, I have agreed to place HANGTOWN into the AHRMA NW series. Friends this is a huge big deal and I'm very proud to be apart of all this.

congratulations dirk!  i wish i lived out that way, i would be willing to help out. if it turns out anything like washougal, you'll have plenty to be proud of. you should be commended for your obvious love of the old venues and putting your time, money, and effort where your mouth is.    chicago jerry

Washougal was in deed a great event.... I rode on Saturday and it was awesome... What a thrill to fly off the big down hill.. After the event I went back and revued the footage from last years national and I was astonished to realize the Ricky was landing at the bottom of that hill. I am not sure just how far that is but it had to be well over a hundred feet. AS I was flying off the top of that hill for a brief, very brief momement I felt like I was a big time racer, but alas as Dick Mann had said, we are just pretenders.... Oh what fun though, What a thrill to actually get to ride on national tracks. I for one would love to race on the old Hangtown track, I was there in 74 what an wonderful place to race. Not sure how I am going to make it happen but make sure I will be pulling some major strings to get there.....

Wow, how cool is that?? The original track brought back to life to be ridden by old nostalgic guys on era-bikes to boot! Thanks Dirk--you not only set us up with cool events at great venues, you bring back the actual vintage dirt to go under our restored racers!

I'm guessing this is near the start of the track we're talking about - http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=531211748&context=set-72157600310205784&size=l
w/ a Penton in 2nd place under full throttle by Buck Murphy?

Dirk did a great job bringing the great Washougal circuit to us Northwest old bike guys. Never did I dream I'd race that track in my old age...Dirk and the owners did a great job of taming it just slightly so as to be friendly to old iron, and the event last May was fantastic. Thanks for all you do Dirk!

Mac, the picture is actually after the start straightaway, right turn down that hill, into what is reffered to as "The Marsh area". We looked it over, it still there with a bit of track left to see.

Keep in mind the track has 30 years over overgrowth.  WE have our hands full cleaning it up, personally I'm looking forward to the challenge. Hope you can make it, like my earlier post stated we are planning on doing the 1974 track as close as possible.
