Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day to any and all of you Moms out there.  

I have a Mom story to relate to you folks that was told by John Penton.

The Penton brothers were hard at work on their machines, probably getting ready for Jackpine or some other event, "back in the day", and creating quite a stir around the Penton farm. John said that his Mom said that if it wasn't for that "darn Harley" all of this nonsense wouldn't be happening

Later in life John and his family took his Mom on trips to Europe and showed her parts of the world she may never have had the chance to see otherwise, all initiated by that "darn Harley", funny how life works out.....

For any of you not familiar with the "darn Harley", during his college days, John's Father Harold had purchased a 1914 Harley-Davidson for transportation to Ohio State University from his home in Cleveland. The old Harley was left neglected in the barn for many years, until the day that John's brother Ike dragged it out and got it running.....and as they say, the rest is history.

Thanks for the story, Mom's have a way of not understanding our need to ride or to do things that might be a bit unsafe.. when I was a boy we were taken with jumping things.  we would set up ramps made up of what ever was handy and we would race to see just how far we could launch ourselves, one day I had the bright idea to set up two ramps, I hit the first one and landed on the second a bit short and the sprocket caught the edge of the ramp, this kicked my rear wheel in the air and here I am riding down the sidewalk on my front wheel, Mom had just set out to see what was going on and I can remember seeing her out of the corner of my eye as I rode across the lawn and into a huge patch of Ivy.. I can't remember exactly happen next but lets just say that Mom was really upset and was not allowed to jump anything taller than text book.
