I have a 1977 250cc GS6.  I want to change the trans fluid, but the breather / fill plug is all fu...ed up.  Is there per say a dip stick on the end of it?  I don't want to try to remove it until I find another one.

Any suggestions for purchasing a new or good used one?

No dipstick. I'd drain it and refill with the correct amount.
Al Buehner may have one in stock. Look on the suppliers links.

The manual says 1 to 1.5 quarts.  Should I split it down the midle and say 1.25 quarts?

Jeff....there should be a "level check plug" under the kick starter. This will indicate oil level in the gear box.

Also, consider using ATF (automatic transmission fluid). It's safe to use, easy to find and will facilitate clutch release....just keep it fresh. You can do a "search" and read years of posts (and opinions) on the subject.

I would run ATF in your transmission.  Put 1400 cc in it. Take the old filler plug out. Put in a metal filler plug in. If you can't find one I have some extras. Later models had all metal plugs. Hope this will help. Later Gary
