Bee-utiful 72 Berkshire Listed at VintageMX

A gentlemen in Colorado has just listed a 72 Berkie 100 MX bike over at VintageMX.US and wants $1800 for it.  Wow...take a look:

The owner states that this bike is set-up with a 30mm Mikuni (!!)and has a "welded spigot". Can someone enlighten me as to what THAT modification is?

Nice looking bike! I wonder why the RH side panel is mounted so far forward? Extra exhaust pipe clearance possibly? Mike

I completely overlooked the fact that it was a 72, My bad. The Akront shouldered wheels threw me off. The oldest Penton that I have personally owned so far was a 74 Six day with Chrome Radellis, and the early 74 250 red tank HS with Akronts.

I can't tell for sure, but this racer special has the later model Akronts and also appears to have the mag hubs (did these start in 73 or 74?).  With that big (for a 100) 30mm Mikuni on there, let me suggest this bike would be VERY competitive in AHRMA's 100 class.

So is anybody going to enlighten me about the "welded spigot" (cylinder inlet) mod on this bike?  Thank you.....

I take it from this statement that it actually has a 125 top end on it, not 100cc, unless it comes with an aditional top end. Mike

My apologies - I think I was on my second Margarita when I originally saw the ad! I'm a sucker for things dressed in red. []

Being a 125 certainly justifies the 30mm Mikuni.  And the bike is in California, not Colorado.  Thanks for the correction, Mike.

Okay..so it can't wage war in the 100 class, but this sled can certainly kick some tail in 125 classic and sportsman!  Hope someone snaps it up and flies the Penton flag in the SoCal vintage scene (along side Victor Monz and his fire breather 125).

It would be pretty simple to change it back to a 100, except for the carb setup, unless you already had the parts. Mike

The bike sold , also was told by the seller that it is a 125cc.
