I've completed 90% of what I had to do to get the SoCal Berkshire ready for the Barber Vintage Festival, and then the ISDT-RR two weeks later. The bike had a lot of period mods that I like so I did not try to make it a perfect stock restoration, I did what I think I would have done to the bike if I had owned it in '73 and was prepping it as a racer. Here are some pictures:

Here are some detail pics of some mods and interesting things:

This is a close up of the side panel we talked about a few months earlier. It is some kind of period aftermarket grey/green plastic part, but it is not the OE Penton panel or a DC Plastics panel. I cut and glassed the panel so it doesn't stick out as far, with the Carl Cranke pipe mod it can tuck in much closer. I can ride it now and not feel the panel hitting the inside of my leg.

This is a close up of the modified lower shock mount. It has been moved 3 or so inches forward similar to how a Husky Mag or a 74.5 Maico is done.

This is a picture of my home made wide foot pegs. I took some flat steel strap and cut teeth in it, then folded it around the stock peg and welded it on. It has MUCH more grip with your boot and the wider platform helps keep the pegs from hurting my feet on hard landings.

I have never been happy with the way the front brake cable routes on the 32mm Cerianis, most people (I did) just zip-tie it to the leg. I made a simple and cheap (REALLY cheap) bracket using an electrical conduit strap bracket, I paid something like $3 for a bag of 5. I put the bracket between the fork lower and the brake stay, then I flattened the bracket with a rubber mallet to move the cable out and to pinch it in place. I really like the setup, and it keeps the cable straight as it exits the brake.

Hope you like the pictures.

Nice job. I like that brake cable mod, I may try that also.

Brian,

The bike looks great. Love the number plate - I went with an old school flat one just because of the problem with width - great idea.

Can't wait to see the bike in Tulsa & compare notes.

I'll be riding the 72 SoLa Berkshire 100 XC from Covington Louisiana.

I will probably use the old school flat plate on that side for the ISDT-RR but either way I will bring the panel with me so you can check it out. Looking at the pipe on your 100XC I think you could easily do the same thing as the rear half of your pipe looks exactly like mine. Taking the outer cover off the pipe allows you to tuck that side panel in a lot.
