Because I'm just learning to post pictures I am posting, for fun, the new to me 1978 MC-5 400 below.  I wasn't going to buy it but the seller made the deal too good to pass up.  One is a picture of the bike as acquired and the other is one step along the way to a planned semi-GS transformation.  Haven't tied down the headlight/number plate yet and won't until I re-route or re-cable the controls.  I took off the tank and the bike appears to have a lighting coil based on the extra wires.

The bike really rips and is a bit of a handful.  Incredible exhaust note!

Best, John

Hi John,
Did I see you at Wendy's this AM with my Sunday School Class??    I was talking to a guy that saw my cap, and told me he recently bought a 78.   wnm

Nope, not me.  Old KTMs (and Pentons) are lurking everywhere!

John,

Good looking bike, I bought that model when it first came out.  A suggestion, find a rear frame loop for your bike.  If you do not, your rear fender will not last long.  Especially true if you have a mud run.

Thanks Tony, good advice I'm sure.  I received a bolt-on rear loop w/ the bike but it doesn't really fit well w/ the UFO fender you see in the pic, which otherwise fits pefectly in the seat cavity, etc.  For now, I have the UFO attached to the frame and also using the holes in the seat used by the mx fender, but I don't like that arrangement at all. I'm sure it will rip out of the seat w/ little force. Waiting for a proper GS fender repro from Tom Brosius, at which point the loop will go on.  Regards, John
