Motoplat issue

My '72 Jackpiner is running fine -- but, it is producing no juice at the yellow (hot) headlight wire. Assuming the lighting coil is deceased, I suppose my options are:
1) Replace light coil (maybe a rewind?)
2) Replace entire motoplat w another or get it rebuilt; or
3) Throw down the scratch for an MZB.

From the glowing reports I'm leaning toward MZB. But the cost of that option is pretty high and the ignition but for the lighting works fine. The bike is plated so that's why I need a light by the way. Thanks for any suggestions. John

My opinion....do the MZB.

John, There are always more options.....this is the POG Forum, maybe someone has a moto-splat to sell/trade/help troubleshoot, maybe there is vendor to test the unit, maybe there is a vendor that can rewind...the answer to the question is always "yes"

Send it to Dane and have him test it!

Have you checked with a light bulb or a volt meter? I think it is AC.

I did take it to a cycle mechanic who tested it w a multimeter and he cdn't get any reading on the light wires.

John ,
Vance rebuilds motoplats. He has had good success over the last 2 years doing it. You could give him a call. Try this email address.

I was just a thought, if the mechanic used the DC scale on the multimeter you would not see any voltage even if the motoplate is good. It is AC voltage. Has anyone tried a know good light?

Best regards, Richard

Many thanks to all. I will follow up on these helpful suggestions.
