Cory Buttrick ISDE Update

I've gotten several concerned calls today regarding Cory's accident at the ISDE and wanted to update everyone on his condition.  I just got off the phone with Cory's mom and the good news is that Cory was evaluated by the American medical staff and it was decided that he didn't need to be hospitalized.

Cory's accident occurred near the end of Day 1 when he was passing a rider and struck something on the trail.  Apparently, he then got tangled up in the crash and ended up in a ravine with the bike on him.  Cory's wrist's were badly beaten up by the bark busters and even Cory couldn't believe that his wrists weren't broken...they may still be, but we won't be entirely sure until he is evaluated here in the States.  The other deal breaker was an injury to his leg that was too debilitating.  He is also apparently scratched, cut, bruised and torn-up from head to toe.  As a testament to Cory's toughness, he was still able to finish the day!  
 
Cory was chosen to be the Junior Trophy Team Captain this year and was very, very proud to be representing us again at the ISDE.  He has earned a reputation for being not just fast, but very consistent and error free.  If you look at his results for Day 1 you can see that he was turning in some incredible times, even besting Caselli and Brown in some of the tests.  Needless to say, he is very disappointed to be out of the competition and unable to contribute to the team's success out on the track.  Despite his injuries, Cory has elected to not come home for treatment/recuperation, but to stay in Mexico and attempt to help his teammates in any way possible.

I know many of you have been closely following Cory's racing adventures, so I asked his mom to please tell him that he is in our thoughts and that we're very proud of him.

Sign on a true Six Day rider...staying to help his team and ignoring his own injuries.  True spirit!  Sad to see Cory out as he is blisteringly fast.

I dont like some of the guys who have their helmets painted white with blue stripes. I know that was the original US team color, in the early 60s at Le Mans the US cars were painted white with blue stripes. I would rather see them the traditional blue with white stripes.

Cory's Dad, Dennis, said that the new paint scheme was done by the Trophy team and a couple of the Junior team members on their own, and was not approved by the team manager, Gunnie Claypoole. In fact, Gunnie did not know anything about it until they were already in Mexico. He said that he was surprised that the FIM even let the riders use the helmets.




Cory carried the tradition paint scheme on his helmet.

Hi Nelson,

He's doing well. Last weekend was the first time he's been on a bike since his crash two weeks ago. Right now, he's in Japan to race a JNCC, which is the equivalent to our GNCC series.

Yep. Cory is C-Butt, his Dad is D-Butt, and his Mom is V-Butt.
